DriveWorks Case Studies
Elevator manufacturer provides superior customer service and quadruples production

This privately owned company has been designing and manufacturing custom elevators since 1983 and has built its highly successful business by delivering excellent customer service.
Now using DriveWorks and SolidWorks they can quickly and accurately respond to customer enquiries and specify each customer’s elevator. It also enables them to generate a contract specification document detailing all the customer’s requirements. The system creates all the manufacturing documentation required for production i.e. drawings, cutting lists, 3D representations.
Time reduced from 5 weeks to 1 day!
Electric Motor Company eliminates repetitive engineering tasks
WEG is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Electric Motors. Typically each contract means a new and often complex product needs to be custom designed, complete with detailed manufacturing data and drawings.

Imagine the complexities of a power generator project for an oil platform. As well as meeting the customer specifications, it must also meet a wide range of standards, such as ISO and engineering and manufacturing rules. Add one more factor - this generator will operate in the sea! The designers now also have to consider specific rules relating to oxidation.
Now with DriveWorks, calculations, databases, engineering procedures and standards are set up by key-users allowing designers to reuse this captured knowledge every time they need to specify a new custom product.
Savings come from reducing rework, errors and development time
Customization and automation are focus of business strategy for Stair Manufacturer
This stair company has been using SolidWorks and DriveWorks since 2007 to generate bespoke designs and cost effective solutions to any given stair requirement.
All variables - size, material, colour, price and more - can be adjusted to meet the customer’s specific design and budgetary requirements and to assess the impact of any alterations or amendments required. Crescent’s custom designs package allows the automation of 80% of the design element of the stair, creating 3D models of Crescent products based around standard options. These, along with 2D drawings for manufacture and BOM's are passed through to stock control and purchasing automatically.

The use of SolidWorks/DriveWorks practically eliminates the "repetitive" design elements allowing our engineers to focus on the 20% "job specific" elements whilst also freeing up time to dedicate to more creative "one off" feature staircases.
Engineering Team freed up to concentrate on innovative new designs
Investment in the latest engineering design technology has brought significant differentiation for this trailer company. SolidWorks and DriveWorks has enabled them to tackle the challenges of Custom Manufacturing. We can create all Drawings and Manufacturing Data for a complete trailer in the space of 4 hours. Previously this used to take up to a week.
By automating our design process we are feeing up engineering time. This time we are gaining is now used proactively in research and development. The result is new designs such as our revolutionary, new articulated trailer, whose teardrop shape reduces CO2 emissions by 20%, when compared to a standard cab-trailer fleet operation.
